I’m sure you’ve noticed that the entire month of May is dedicated to the celebration of mothers. Many opportunities to celebrate, rejuvenate, and rest are available throughout the month. I personally carved out a little self-care time this past month and wanted to share with you some of the amazing local businesses that I found. These small businesses are run by women, many of them mothers. Anytime I can stimulate the local economy, I’m IN! I also hope to inspire you to take time to fill your own tank. As mothers, we continually serve, leaving our own love tanks running on empty. We can’t pour from an empty cup!! If you’re local, I encourage you to try one of these gems. If you join us from afar, I hope this inspires you to find a local treasure in your community to enjoy.

Traditions Continue

When my mother was alive it was a tradition of ours to get a pedicure together. We had specific times throughout the year that we would meet together for a mother-daughter date. When she passed away, I continued the tradition with my daughters. They’ve been having pedicures since they were preschoolers! Joli Nails at The Fountains in Roseville is a go-to salon for me. I like that it’s close to our afternoon activities, allowing me an opportunity to slip in for a quick hour of self-care in the middle of a busy afternoon. They also have so many pedicure chairs that an outing with my daughters or friends is a great possibility; Joli always seems to have enough room for all of us.

Stop to Smell the Flowers

There’s something healing, refreshing, and extravagant that happens when you place a bouquet of fragrant, fresh flowers on the kitchen table. It elevates the whole space. The burst of color, the delicate perfume, and the invitation to stop and literally smell the flowers is satisfying to the soul. Someday I’m going to have fresh flowers on my table everyday. For now, I’ll celebrate when I can. Healing Flowers Farm in Meadow Vista is a hidden jewel. It truly is a slice of heaven and the bouquets are ever changing with the seasons, guaranteeing the freshest flowers. The owner harvests them right there from her property and arranges the most beautiful bouquets. Truly a treat! Follow her on IG or FB and send her a message to order your healing flowers. Elevate your space, Mama!

Find Your Tribe

One of the many blessings of my work is the opportunity to get to know the amazing mothers in my community. I have the privilege of so many incredible friendships! Taking the time to connect with other women is especially important. It’s comforting to know we are not alone in our motherhood journey, to know that what we’re feeling is normal – the challenges, the victories – we all experience similar bends along the path of motherhood. Gathering together for a Moms Night Out is refreshing! We all come back a lighter happier, our step is a little lighter, and our outlook on life a little brighter. It’s just so good for the soul!! I met with a few BellissiMamas Sisters at Crooked Lane Brewing Company to honor a friend. It was time well spent. I encourage you to do the same. Find your tribe and love them hard!

Feed Your Soul

For the past decade I owned a fitness business. It was an incredible experience to serve and lead the women in my community through fitness in motherhood. I not only strengthened my village, but also myself – mentally, spiritually, and physically. It was an honor to lead and serve. This season of life has me on the receiving end and WOW is it amazing!! I had the privilege of attending a Birth Workers Yoga Circle led by Birth Wisdom Yoga. It was 90 minutes of pure bliss – the movement, the breath, the fresh breeze that swept over me as I rested in savasana. Reflection at the close of the circle was a powerful gift that has carried me through the rest of the month, refocusing and repurposing this new season. Man, it blessed me!! I highly recommend everyone find a place that feeds their soul.

Roots and Wings

A little one on one time with my youngest girl was on the calendar for this month too. A simple dinner of take-out from Auburn Ale House and Anne of Green Gables was all it took. It wasn’t extravagant. It was just what we needed – time to reconnect, to giggle, to listen. As my children grow up, I am acutely aware of the fleeting season of childhood. Our children push and pull to the end of their tether to explore, discover, to learn about themselves and their world. They are eager to jump right in with both feet. This is good. Life is to be embraced not feared. I want my children to stand in anticipation for what life has in store for them. I want them to take flight and use their wings…but always remember their roots and come back home to me. That’s what these simple moments are for, feathering the nest so that coming home is a comfort.

Moms Supporting Moms

When women gather together great things happen! That’s what we witnessed at an awesome Mom’s Day Out community event, hosted by mothers for mothers. It was a glorious afternoon spent with friends. While there were many great vendor booths, it would be difficult to mention them all, some of my favorites were Crunchy Cottage, Cake Faerie, Bambino Soft Play, Pampered Chef with Tabi Traughber, InfraRead: Thermography for Wellness, Gather Studio and Events, Elevibe Organic, and Connected Chiropractic. I happened to be the lucky winner of the drawing from Elevibe Organic. I’ve been enjoying the Sea Moss Gel ever since. I had never even heard of this superfood before, but it definitely has me intrigued. Just one tablespoon in my coffee each morning for a strong immune system, energy boost, and nutrient rich benefits. Yes, please!!

Holding Space

Each month I have the honor and privilege of meeting in Mama Circle with amazing women, prenatal to grandmother. Motherhood is an incredible journey ~ seasons of change, self discovery, awakening, and reconnection. Having a safe space to share, talk, and just BE can offer confidence, balance, celebration, and reverence. We meet from the comfort of our own homes as we gather together in Circle virtually. Together we hold space, allowing each mama to share and process her feelings, her way. Mama Circle is a safe and nurturing space for mamas to gather and share stories, joys and challenges, to find support, laughter and sisterhood as we move through the incredible journey of mothering. I invite you to join us!

Strength for the Journey

My motherhood journey wouldn’t be complete without my sons. My first born son ushered me into motherhood, two more sons blessed the middle of my motherhood, and my last born son is the wonderful caboose on our crazy train. Through the years, I’ve been their biggest fan on the bleachers at football and basketball. I’ve paced the sidelines at soccer and baseball. These days my support is found on the mat at The Studio of Martial Arts and Fitness. It’s at this small fitness studio that I’ve seen mighty things. I’ve watched quiet, tender spirits find strength in boldness, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. It’s under the leadership of Master Pourarian and her wonderful team I’ve witnessed a young white belt persevere towards black belt. His Taekwondo journey woven into my motherhood; they’ve complimented each other. This place of respect, dedication, and strength is also home to nurture, comfort, and friendship. I’m grateful for finding such unforeseen treasure. If you’re local to Roseville, I highly recommend The Studio’s fitness family for Taekwondo, Ninja, and fitness.

A Legacy of Love

Lastly, my month of celebration of motherhood acknowledges my beautiful daughters-in-love, for it is through their love of my sons that our family legacy lives on through future generations. I have four beautiful baby grands. Watching my DILs step into their motherhood journeys is especially dear to my heart. I honor THEIR motherhood, THEIR way. One of my DILs is an Epic Food for Life Epicure Consultant. She teaches mothers how to prepare and serve nutritious meals, quick and easy. For someone who’s been cooking for decades, I still find new and delicious tips and tricks with Epicure. Whatever their passion, whether it’s cooking, singing, sewing, or selling, I hope my daughters find their voices and speak boldly for all to hear. I want my children to take up space, to step into their light and let it shine. I’ll support that every day of my life. It’s a beautiful blessing that reciprocates.

Happy Mothers Month, Mamas! I hope you found peace and joy woven into the margins of each day. Share the local treasures you’ve found so that others may be blessed as well. Together we can lift each other up, fill each others’ cups, and make our motherhood a little brighter. Thank you for making my heart smile!
